Zła wiadomość dla tych, którzy musza się przemieszczać:
The week between 15-19 March will put authorities under pressure, because of protests staged by many categories of population - teachers, students, pensioners, Bucharest subway employees and taxi drivers. They are all unhappy with the working conditions offered by the state and with the Government not keeping its promises, and seek significant changes.
First to protest will be teachers and students, as the Free Trade Unions Federation of the Education System (FSLI) announced street rallies, marches and warning strikes throughout the country, to last until the 2nd of April. In parallel, Cartel Alfa unions' federation continues to picket prefectures all over Romania.
Also on Monday, Romania's National Union of Students (UNSR) will start its protests in front of the Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sport (MECTS), asking for the increase of scholarships and of the budget allocated for youth camps.
The employees of the Bucharest metro will go on general strike this Thursday. The Bucharest Court of Appeals ruled as legal the previous strike of November 2009, so this new protest comes in continuation of the moves started last fall. Hence, subway traffic will be interrupted between 4 AM and 4 PM until unionists are granted higher wages and better work conditions.
Wednesday and Thursday, 7,000 minibus and taxi drivers will protest in Victoriei Square, while the trade unions of the public administration sector have issued threats of their own, unhappy with wage cuts.
Pensioners announced they will picket the headquarters of Government and local prefectures on March 26, over the reduction of the pension point, the increase of health services' cost and the reduction of treatment vouchers.
